Frank WANG Yefeng: Groundless Flower — ཨ
is now at The Window in London
presented by CHANEL Culture Fund
1 Bruton Street, London, UK
March 2 — April 2, 2026
On view from 2 March to 2 April, 2026, The Window presents Groundless Flower — ཨ (2025), an experimental digital work by Frank WANG Yefeng. Named after the Tibetan letter ཨ, the primordial vowel linked to the origin of all things, the artwork proposes a fluid understanding of reality shaped by movement, migration, and cultural exchange.
The Window is a site-specific public art initiative by CHANEL Culture Fund on view 24-hours a day at the Time & Life building on Bruton Street in London that provides access to cutting-edge artworks by artists exploring the breadth of today’s digital technologies. The programme continues with Yefeng’s Groundless Flower ཨ, following earlier presentations by Refik Anadol, LuYang, Sarah Meyohas, Universal Everything, Jakob Kudsk Steensen, Cao Fei, Petra Cortright, Jacolby Satterwhite, CROSSLUCID, Cecilia Bengolea, Shahzia Sikander, and Noémie Goudal.
Groundless Flower — ཨ unfolds as a journey shaped by Yefeng’s experiences of living between East and West and traversing vast landscapes including the Gobi Desert, the Qingzang Plateau, and New Mexico’s Badlands. Combining digital and analogue elements – such as aerial footage of desert terrains, 3D renderings, computer-generated atmospheric simulations, and animated fragments of painting – the artwork brings together cultural, historical, and spiritual references to evoke a state of placelessness and liminality. The desert, often seen as an empty expanse, is reimagined as a charged site of imagination and shifting possibility.
At the centre of the work, a luminous flower drifts between physical presence and digital apparition, delicately treading the line between desolation and hope. Over time, this form adapts into what the artist describes as a ‘cosmic tree’ – a reimagining of the Tree of Life, which is a symbol found across global mythologies – uprooted from hierarchical structures and rendered as a floating, interconnected web.
Frank WANG Yefeng (b. 1984) examines the tensions between belonging and estrangement, frequently blurring boundaries between the human and non-human, the virtual and the physical. His multidisciplinary practice spans 3D animation, video installation, sculpture, painting, drawing, and writing, and is shaped by experiences of migration and cultural displacement. WANG Yefeng’s projects have been featured in exhibitions internationally, including the BRIC Biennial and OCAT Biennial, China; CCS Bard Hessel Museum of Art, Annandale-on Hudson, NY; Smack Mellon and International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), New York City; Gasworks London, UK; Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea; and Hyundai Motorstudio, Beijing, China, among others.
Groundless Flower ཨ was first presented in September 2025 at the High Line in New York City as part of High Line Originals, an annual commission supported by the CHANEL Culture Fund.
